Councilmember Thompson has been a three-term elected representative to District #6 on the Omaha City Council – his first term beginning on May 9, 2001. Franklin and his wife, Beverly, have four children Jasmine, Franque, Ivy and Kelly along with six grandchildren. 

Franklin Thompson has overcome a tremendous amount of obstacles that usually knock a typical person out of the game of life and has since dedicated himself to the Education of our youth. He has had a long-standing career within Education; Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha for the past 13 years, former Counselor at Creighton Prep High School for 5 years and over 16 years with Omaha Public Schools. Of particular note, Franklin’s career in Education has expanded the minds of thousands of young students who have blossomed into today’s leaders.

Franklin Thompson’s true passion is music – he has been involved in songwriting and recording of himself and others. He is proud of his religious and spiritual upbringing in which he states, “This is the main reason I am where I am at today”. His bi-partisan views and beliefs and his ability to see the big picture have given the City Council a fresh perspective.

In his spare time, perhaps you can catch Franklin on the football field, basketball and tennis court or the boxing ring.
