Gary Wasdin started his position on January 4, 2010.
The Omaha Public Library provides many services and resources, including:
- Free access to information for the residents of Omaha, NE
- Programs and activities for children
- Online reference assistance for quick answers to questions
- Gaming Events and Homework Assistance programs for Teens
- Books, movies, and music available in all 12 library branches, as well as downloadable from the library website
- ESL materials and programs for those learning English
- Literacy materials and workshops
- Resources and services for Omaha’s immigrant population
- Free wireless access, and computer workstations in all 12 branches
- Expert guidance from staff on everything from suggestions for a good book to read to help applying for a job.
Gary’s goals for the Omaha Public Library include:
- Improved facilities to better serve Omaha’s growing population
- Engaging and innovative programs and spaces for children and teens
- New lecture programs and events targeting Omaha’s 20-30 year olds
- Increased and stable funding to ensure consistent, quality services in all library branches
- Increased visibility for the Omaha Public Library, to ensure that all residents know the great things available here for free
- New and innovative services for all of Omaha, including better functionality on mobile devices, a better online presence for 24/7 service, and state-of-the-art technology in all branches
