June 22, 2011 – The City of Omaha is calling for a new round of volunteers to fill sandbags at Levi Carter Park. The city’s current supply is quickly being used and additional sandbags will be necessary to protect property from flood damage.
City officials welcome both individual and group volunteers. Individuals who would like to volunteer are being directed to registers online at https://volunteer.truist.com/omaha/volunteer/. Groups of 10 or more who want to help should contact Amber Miller of Omaha Parks, Recreation, & Public Property Department at 402-444-5947 for details.
Volunteers must be at least 19 years-old and have the ability to work during periods of hot weather. In order to participate in the sandbagging operation volunteers need to bring gloves and a shovel to their assigned shift. Each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, shifts will be divided into two time periods: 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
