November 7, 2011

November 7, 2011- Omaha Serves, an initiative of Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle aimed at eradicating poverty by promoting volunteerism and civic engagement, submitted its year-end report to Americorps last week.

Omaha Serves, in its inaugural year, conducted capacity building programs for mentorship programs, children’s entrepreneurship programs, neighborhood associations and nonprofit agencies, including the Making the Grade to End Hunger Food Drive. In all, Omaha Serves’ efforts accounted for 17,064 community volunteers logging a total of 68,256 hours of service to the community.

“We are excited by the success of our first year, but committed to strengthening the program for 2012,” said Craig Howell, Chief Service Officer. “We operate under the commitment that all of Omaha can come together to end poverty.”
