Omaha Mayor Reaches Out to Local School Districts

January 6, 2012 – Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle reached out to Superintendents from several area school districts and the Mayor of Ralston today. The goal was to have an open dialogue on strengthening partnerships between neighboring communities and the city’s school districts. “We serve many of the same people and face many of the same issues on a daily basis,” said Mayor Suttle. “I thought it was important to have a discussion about building partnerships, exchanging ideas, and sharing resources so we can effectively improve the quality of life for our children and community as a whole.”

The participants in today’s meeting include: Don Groesser, Mayor of Ralston, John Mackiel, Omaha Public Schools, Keith Lutz, Millard Public Schools, Stephen Baker, Elkhorn Public Schools, Jacquie Estee, Westside Community Schools and Jerald Riibe, Ralston Public Schools. Mayor Suttle and his staff discussed issues facing youth, truancy prevention programs, after school resources, use of the Civic Auditorium, and the City’s Small and Emerging Businesses program. Mayor Suttle offered his support and assistance to collectively work together to solve issues within our community.
