City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer Rec’s Kids Clubhouse, a year round youth program. This program replaces the three month summer only SunDawgs program which provided summertime activities for Omaha children in the metropolitan area for past 15 years.
Rec’s Kids Clubhouse is intended to facilitate recreation opportunities for Omaha’s youth. This summer and afterschool program encourages active healthy lifestyles while promoting social, emotional, and cognitive growth through play. Studies show when children and teens are not in school and are without constructive activities or adult supervision, crimes by and against children soar, including car accidents, substance abuse, and sexual assault. For every dollar spent on out of school programs, taxpayers save an average of $6 in crime costs. Proper after-school and summer programs can reduce negative behaviors and increase positive behaviors and self-confidence.
Rec’s Kids Clubhouse is available at 12 community centers. The Parks Department hopes going to a free year-round service, weekdays from 3pm to 6pm and summer programs weekdays from 10am to 4pm, will provide a structured and safe environment. Additional options for kids for programs not included in the times above will be offered for a small fee.
The summer youth program has been tailored to better fit the needs of a year round program. Rec’s Kids Clubhouse has been relocated to the attached community centers to expand activity possibilities without the threat of inclement weather. Fun filled summer activities such as crafts, games, sports, swimming, special events and field trips will be available for youth ages 6-12 yrs. The summer program will starts the first week of June from 10:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. A $35 donation is greatly appreciated.
