Urban Planning is responsible for the preparation of:

• the elements of the Master Plan
• neighborhood plans
• special project plans
• annual building and development summary
• annexation and capital improvement programming activities

Urban Planning also administers the Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission. 
The Current Planning section administers the zoning and subdivision regulations, prepares City base maps and other specialty maps, and provides the Planning Help Desk. 

The section also provides staff support to the:

• Planning Board
• Zoning Board of Appeals
• Administrative Board of Appeals
• Plumbing Board
