Starting in 2009, twenty-eight independent living senior housing units were built on this 5-acre site using CDBG-R funds, which were made avialable to HCD as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Construction was completed in 2011.
The project was a welcome addition to this part of the City which was declared blighted and substandard by the Omaha City Council on June 2, 1992. This part of town lost over 12% of it's population between 1990 and 2000. The rest of Omaha grew by over 16% during that same time. Similarly, this part of town lost more than 31% of its housing units during this period, and nearly 10% of the housing units are vacant (67% of the project site was vacant before the project started).Â
