“To make property handicapped accessible.”
The Barrier Removal Program is operated by the League of Human Dignity.
The program removes barriers that reduce household accessibility for people with special needs.
Barrier removal includes the construction of ramps, chair lifts, grab bars, wider doorways, and accessible tubs and showers, for example. The program is available to households at or below 80% of the Median Family Income.
League of Human Dignity staff will make this determination based on the applicant’s information.
- Applicants must own and occupy the home in need of barrier removal, or must rent property owned by a landlord willing to participate in the program.
- Applicants must have:
- property taxes
- student loans
- child support payments
- special assessments paid-to-date
- no serious credit problems
