Columbian School is an excellent and rare example of the Richardsonian Romanesque style of architecture, a style employed for many of the most important civic and commercial buildings constructed in Omaha in the late 19th century.

It was designed 1892 by architect John Latenser, known for his designs for schools as well as for many of the city’s most important structures such as Central High School and the Douglas County Courthouse.

In 1990 Columbian School was extensively rehabilitated for use as apartments using federal historic preservation tax credits.

(This building is also listed individually in the National Register of Historic Places and is located in a National Register Historic District.)
