It is not known who designed this unique 1890 house. It was built by Joseph Garneau, Jr., associated with the Garneau Cracker Company, one of the largest operations of its kind in the West during the 1880’s. In 1903, several years after Garneau moved to Chicago upon consolidation of his business with an even bigger company, the house was purchased by Thomas Kilpatrick, who was very successful in the dry goods and clothing business. Kilpatrick resided in the house until his death in 1916.
While the original smooth-brick exterior wall surfaces have been stuccoed, the medieval and picturesque qualities of the Romanesque revival style of the Garneau/Kilpatrick House are still evident.
