This house was designed and built for Mary Reed, the widow of Byron Reed, a pioneer real estate man and philanthropist who amassed one of the largest fortunes in Omaha.

The house is located in the Gold Coast area, a neighborhood which housed a preponderance of Omaha’s cultural and financial leaders in the early 20th century. The Mary Reed House displays most all elements associated with the Prairie style of architecture, a style prevalent in the Midwest from the turn-of-the-century until World War I, originating in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, the acknowledged master of the Prairie style.
