Edgar Zabriskie House
3524 Hawthorne Avenue
1889
Architect: Fowler and Beindorff
Queen Anne Style
Designated Omaha Landmark: October 14, 1980

This 1889 house is one of the finest Queen Anne style structures in the city. Built during a period of economic prosperity, the Zabriskie House exhibits fundamental Queen Anne elements such as different wall surfaces, high multiple roof, round turret, straight and round-arched windows, and prominent gables and chimneys.

The builder of the house, New York native Edgar Zabriskie, led an adventurous life as:

  • a ship officer
  • Civil War veteran
  • Union Pacific
  • general agent
  • accountant

Zabriskie was one of the first purchasers of a lot in Bemis Park, a new residential suburb in the 1880’s.

(This building is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places.)
